Playing Pool

"Pocket billiards" redirects here. For other uses, see Pocket billiards (disambiguation).
Pro player David Alcaide at the World Pool Masters 2007 Pool, also more formally known as pocket billiards (mostly in North America) or pool billiards (mostly in Europe and Australia), is the family of cue sports and games played on a pool table having six receptacles called pockets along the rails, into which balls are deposited as the main goal of play.

Popular versions include eight-ball and nine-ball. An obsolete term for pool is six-pocket. There are hundreds of pool games. Some of the more well known include eight-ball, nine-ball, ten-ball, straight pool, one-pocket and bank pool. There are also hybrid games combining aspects of both pool and carom billiards, such as American four-ball billiards, cowboy pool and bottle pool.

The Oxford English Dictionary states that pool is generally "any of various types of billiards for two or more players" but goes on to note that the first specific meaning of "a game in which each player uses a cue ball of a distinctive colour to pocket the balls of the other player(s) in a certain order, the winner taking all the stakes submitted at the start of the contest" is now obsolete and its other specific definitions are all for games that originate in the United States of America. In the United States, though the original "pool" game was played on a pocketless carom billiards table, the term later stuck to all new games of pocket billiards as the sport gained in popularity,[citation needed] and so outside the cue sports industry, which has long favored the more formal term pocket billiards, pool has remained the common name for the sport.

You and your best friend

When we first talked to each other I knew we would always be friends.
Our friendship has kept on growing And I'll be here for you to the end. You listen when I have a problem And help dry the tears from my face.

You take away my sorrow And put happiness in its place. We can't forget the fun we've had Laughing 'til our faces turn blue.
Talking of things only we find funny People think we're insane-If they only knew! I guess this is my way of saying thanks For catching me when I fall.
Thanks once again for being such a good friend And being here with me through it all. When I first saw you, I didn't know what to think?,

When you spoke to me I was shocked, Now that were Best Friends I couldn't let, Nothing happen to you!!, If someone were to hurt you I would go crazy,
That's how special you are to me, I couldn't bare the thought of seeing you cry, I would hurt deep down in, But now that I am here that will never happen,

Temperature Today

The Current Temperature map shows the current temperatures color contoured every 5 degrees F. Temperature is a physical property of a system that underlies the common notions of hot and cold; something that is hotter generally has the greater temperature. Specifically, temperature is a property of matter. Temperature is one of the principal parameters of thermodynamics.

On the microscopic scale, temperature is defined as the average energy of microscopic motions of a single particle in the system per degree of freedom. On the macroscopic scale, temperature is the unique physical property that determines the direction of heat flow between two objects placed in thermal contact. If no heat flow occurs, the two objects have the same temperature; otherwise heat flows from the hotter object to the colder object. These two basic principles are stated in the zeroth law and second law of thermodynamics, respectively.

For a solid, these microscopic motions are principally the vibrations of its atoms about their sites in the solid. For an ideal monatomic gas, the microscopic motions are the translational motions of the constituent gas particles. For a multiatomic gas, vibrational and rotational motion should be included too. Temperature is measured with thermometers that may be calibrated to a variety of temperature scales. In most of the world (except for the United States, Jamaica, and a few other countries), the degree Celsius scale is used for most temperature measuring purposes.

The entire scientific world (the U.S. included) measures temperature using the Celsius scale and thermodynamic temperature using the kelvin scale, which is just the Celsius scale shifted downwards so that 0 K= −273.15°C, or absolute zero. Many engineering fields in the U.S., especially high-tech ones, also use the kelvin and degrees Celsius scales. However, the United States is the last major country in which the degree Fahrenheit temperature scale is used by most lay people, industry, popular meteorology, and government. Other engineering fields in the U.S. also rely upon the Rankine scale (a shifted Fahrenheit scale) when working in thermodynamic-related disciplines such as combustion.

Doing Massage

Touching, petting, and stroking a cat can stimulate the release of chemicals called cytokines, which in turn signal the brain to release natural painkilling chemicals called endorphins. Cats may show their pleasure during massage by purring and gently kneading their paws.[citation needed]

Massage therapy may have similar benefits for cats as it has for humans, including preventative measures and as a solution for pain the pet might be enduring. Cat massage may be used to calm an anxious animal. Cat massages may also lower the blood pressure of the owner, acting as a relaxation technique for both parties.[citation needed] Cat massage is useful in breeding familiarity and intimacy between the owner and a feline.

Massaging the cat may also allow the owner to look for abnormalities that might appear on the cat's skin and in finding areas of tenderness or swelling that could be the signs of a serious condition.

Massage can increase the mobility and flexibility in cats who suffer from arthritis. It may also be an alternative way to hasten the rehabilitation of a cat that has undergone surgery. Massage therapy may have a positive impact on the cats' digestive system and their coat and skin.
Stroke the cat, checking for skin abnormalities or parasites of any kind. Owners should consider the likes and dislikes of their cat during the entire massage. Cats should not be forced into having massages. A common place to start is behind the ears, as cats may be more receptive to receiving affection in this area.. Avoid locations the cat has shown an antipathy toward being petted. For example, if the cat does not like to have its stomach petted the owner should not attempt to massage this area.[citation needed]

Pet owners are advised to apply gentle massages to their cats and if they wish to give their pet a more deep massage they should go to therapists who are trained in this matter.[citation needed]

Effleurage and friction are both good techniques in massaging cats. After the cat has shown it is relaxed, the owners may start to pet it from the head to the tail, by using their open and relaxed hand. This is the effleurage technique. While practicing this movement, owners can look for abnormalities such as lumps or bumps. The effleurage stroke is helpful in stimulating blood circulation and warming up the tissue.[citation needed] Circular friction may be performed down the cat's body by using one's fingertip to draw small circles on its skin, including the tail.
